Sometimes Outlook tells me I have a new message, then I got into mail.app and it's not there. On both my iPhone and Mac, I get notifcation from Outlook before Mail every single time. I have found that Outlook seems to better at handling push/pull of IMAP.

If you have a storage folder on your server full of emails with PDFS and move it, then the reflection can take a silly amount of time. So no matter what with iMap there will be a large delay, but that delay is more dependent on the server side's speed of making changes, then your internet speed to make those reflections. Then when the change is complete, your local folders synchronize to reflect that server. When you tell Outlook to create a subfolder, it does so on the server's mailbox.
